I know how much those things cost…kudos for him finding a “reasonably priced” one! For me it was an easy bake oven (which turned to disappointment when my mom said they couldn’t’ afford more mixes) and a small record player. It was a kiddy one but damned if I didn’t love that thing. The other thing I remembered getting was a sewing machine at 13. I eventually made all my clothes throughout school. Here’s a “funny” story. Back then girls were expected to take home ec. During the sewing portion I took it home and made the skirt in one night. The teacher was NOT amused. She said I used cheap material (I did). Mom said screw her and let me read comic books in the classroom every day while the others were forced to drag out the whole thing for 6 weeks. I failed the class, my only ever failed class, and my Mom could have cared less. She thought the teacher was stupid and told her. I never loved my Mom more than I did that time, lol.
Good for your mom, but shame on your teacher. I would have been outraged. I have dabbled in sewing myself but I'm not very good at it. I need to get back to it and try again.
WOW🤩 What else can I say? My jaw dropped in joy and awe reading about this year's TBP. I struggle finding words to describe how I'm amazed and full of admiration for what Lola, You, Greg and everybody else prepared and did to make this one truly unforgettable, not just for the girls. The cakes just like always have the top notch appearance (big hats off to your wife). Again, I'm speechless with admiration Greg found the Lego Hogwarts Castle and you're right, no present could ever top this one. Just like you I'd do a lot to have it at your kids' age. All of that makes me think your kids achieved paradise on Earth, because I'd definitely feel that way having a similar birthday celebration! I'm very happy for them. I absolutely agree with your last paragraph - that how I see the longest lasting essence of the Triple Birthday Party. And last but not least, belated Happy Birthday to Betsy, Mae and Lucy!
Happy Birthday to your girls!! What an awesome friend you have. Once they complete that you have to buy them the Titanic! My brother has that one proudly displayed in their family’s living room. He used vacation time and put it together in a week. It’s over 9000 pieces!! I think he’s insane. They have a dedicated room in their house just for Lego building. He keeps a supply of retired sets in a hidden closet in his bedroom. It’s like some weird “Lego” disease that they all have. One thing you don’t do in their house is take your shoes off! 🤪
That sounds amazing! However, I don't think it would appeal to my girls. They're huge fans of Harry Potter but not excited at all about historical ships.
We have no desire to buy that one either. My brother has well over 100 models though so he’s not particular. My husband bought himself Gringott’s bank with the dragon on top. It has a little roller coaster going down the side!! I highly recommend that one for your girls! It’s amazing!
Wow! It looks like it was an amazing birthday for your girls. I have to admire your wife for making three different customized cakes. That’s a beautiful touch of motherly love.
The computer wasn’t “letting” me comment earlier. I look forward to the birthday party post every year! You have some beautiful girls; get your shotgun ready! And those cakes were beautiful! I’ll bet there weren’t any slices left over.
What a great present! We have friends whose 16-yr-old grandson lives with them. His big present every Christmas and birthday for at least the last 10 years has been a Lego set, and they are always the big and expensive ones. I know he has the Hogwarts Castle, and lots of other Harry Potters and Star Wars sets. I think he's reached the end of his interest but he sure enjoyed putting them together all those years. I marvel at any kid who has that much patience and ability to put them together by reading those instructions! Your girls are learning as they play.
They didn't make anything but the basic Lego stuff when our kids were young. And all they did with them was argue over who got what in the back seat of the car on vacation trips but at least that kept them busy for a bit. I gotta admit I always liked the little people pieces.
Letting the kids play with Lego sets in the car is bold, although if they're just freestyling it, I suppose it's not a big deal. In my head, I'm picturing losing some critical peace and not being able to finish a set. My kids aren't allowed to play with Legos in the car, so they just fight about everything else.
Cakes look amazing as always and what a gift! My husband and daughter are jealous. They’ve been eyeing it for a while (they’re 52 and 19). They already did Diagon Alley a couple years ago. With lights! Happy Birthday to your 3! They all get cuter by the minute.
Happy birthday to Betsy, Mae and Lucy! Sounds like a good party. And (as usual), well done Lola — the cakes are spectacular! If she ever decides to give up her day job doing science stuff, she’s got another career option open for her!
But wait - enquiring minds want to know what the gifs were that Greg sent you!!?? What a great present! And how rewarding, when you buy a gift that makes the recipient(s) so happy.
When my son was about 4, and regularly showed disinterest in gifts, my best friend bought him a gift that, when he opened it, despite it being something he’d never seen, his response was “THIS is the gift I’ve always wanted!” (And it was: a toy tractor-trailer car-carrier, full of cars.) We all still fondly recall the “best gift ever.”
What a great birthday party for your girls. I absolutely adore the cakes Lola made. I always love to see what she makes. Concerning the Lego set, that was one of my favorites to put together. It is currently on a table in the living room. We don’t have kids but have a lot of Lego sets. 😂 We have quite a few with a lot of pieces that we need to put together, including the Titanic.
Excellent party, the girls look great! And as always, kudos to Lola for the fantastic cakes. That Lego set looks phenomenal. I bought my 34-year-old son The Razor Crest Lego set last Christmas - 6187 pieces. He has several other large sets, including the Millennium Falcon. He has always loved Legos, and apparently always will!
Lola did an amazing job once again on the cakes! I wish I had her decorating skills! That Hogwart’s Castle is an amazing find and that might keep them busy for at least a week. Now you can relax for a few months. And I’m happy to say I have my order in for a signed copy of your new book to add to my collection.

What a splendid triple birthday party! The girls radiate joy and gladness 😊. Happy birthday blessings to them!

Happy birthday girls... I love the pictures ❤️

Greg definitely came through this time. He might have set the bar a little too high. None of us will ever be able to compete.
As you've discovered, the youngest kid is frequently the smartest because they need to be to survive living with their older siblings. 😉
She's got it all figured out.

Love is the right word. She put a lot of work into those, but she enjoys it. It's her biggest baking project each year.

There were a few slices, but I suspect will finish them off tonight. Lola's cakes never last long with this many mouths around.

Whoa. I did not know that set was that big. Larger than the whole of Hogwarts. Maybe that will show up on a future birthday.
