Sometimes, the only thing better than spending time with family is not spending time with family. I could never love anything as much as I love hanging out with my kids, but, after a year of various lockdowns and quarantines, I’d love to get away from them almost as much. That was the gift we gave my in-laws this Christmas. Of the six people in my house, half already had covid and are out of quarantine and half are still stuck at home in case they develop symptoms before the end of the month. My wife, Lola, told her parents that we couldn’t be there for Christmas this year, and they were disappointed—or so they claimed. Behind closed doors, I’m sure they were secretly relieved we wouldn’t unleash our unruly gang of hooligans in their child-free house.
