Did you ever have braces? The topic is at the top of my mind because my eleven-year-old, Mae, and nine-year-old, Lucy, both had their initial orthodontist appointments today. Lucy got a reprieve until the fall, but Mae is set to get her braces at the end of the month. Meanwhile, I’m bracing for the bill. So far, teeth are my single biggest expense from raising my kids. Soon, that will be surpassed by cars, college, and weddings, but for now, braces are plenty devastating on their own. I think they’re worth it, but that won’t make me cry any less when I write the check. Was your family also financially ravaged by the orthodontic menace? If so, what was that experience like, either as the miserable person getting them or the even more miserable person paying? Sound off in the comments.
