The van-ishing (pun intended) of the car guy reminds me of how my dad once almost had to change the renovator of grandpa's motorbik. He was about to be ghosted when the contact from workshop didn't want to answer whether he had an iPhone, so dad could FaceTime him from Saudi Arabia and save on international calls. They had a heated debate, but ultimately arranged the handover and reclaimong without losing track of one another.
Proper ghosting happened to me most recently last year, when I was looking for a job and on few occasions when it got past a remote interview the communication suddenly stopped, without even sending me the withdrawal mail. At least showing up in person didn't end up in ghosting, but straight rejection.
As for Onyx, it's sad there's nobody near willing to finalize taking him - I hope you will eventually find a new home for him, even if it would be in another state. At least thanks to this we'd get an epic newsletter and an adventure of size similar to the acquisition of the famous Bear!
One of my sons looked for a job for over a year. Every job he tried for he was well qualified for. And he was constantly ghosted, even after enthusiastic conversations with HR. I hate today’s job market! Keep at it, you’ll find a job soon!!
I totally understand about Onyx. Poor guy just wants his space. Doesn't understand why his owner left him. You might want to check with your local 4H club with the swine club. They might know someone who would keep him as a pet.
As an unabashed animal lover, I happened upon a post about an adoptable dog in Fishers, Indiana, and almost got in my car to go get her, until I read that she doesn't like cats. I have 4 cats. But I would have just gotten in my car and driven 3 hours to get her otherwise, never having met her. So, I understand what goes into the urge to take care of an animal you maybe shouldn't.
Oh no, fingers crossed for Onyx and the new rescue situation! Poor guy and poor you. I hate that no one will take him. Not his fault. I really hope this works out for you all.
Can’t you relinquish him to animal control or the humane society? Or even a handy hunter with a family to feed? I’m sorry your good deed trying to help the pig and the owner hasn’t worked out, but surely two years is enough.
I think the car detailed guy looked inside your van secretly and decided he couldn’t save the vehicle. Also, I kinda feel bad for Onyx. Noboby wants him. I’m reminded of that old animal rescue commercial of the little dog in the dark, in the rain, shivering. The song attached to the commercial had this line, “who dean I turn to when nobody needs me…who can I turn to when you look away?” It was Tony Bennett.
If you find a good detailer, hold on to them, they’re excellent to have. As for your pig situation, I say again, a 18 hour drive and set him loose on I-95 in Florida, he’ll fit right in. But if he rides bad might want to wait to detail until after that trip. Or make a tough choice, bacon or rump roasts.
Good call on trying to get a name for the car detailer before they showed up to take the keys (and possibly drive away with your coveted minivan, making that phone call to the police would be that much harder because the dispatcher might be laughing too hard). Good riddance that they didn’t call back.
One silver lining in the Onyx situation is additional irrefutable proof that Lola loves James a lot and is willing to look past a lot (like a testy pig in the house).
Sorry about Onyx. No good deed goes unpunished. I hope you finally get it figured out….just how long do pigs live anyway? lol.
I hate to admit it but I’m a ghoaster. I have ADHD and I’m an introvert (wouldn’t know it from my comments huh? ). I’d just rather not deal with people. So, of course, I’m the one who deals with contractors, etc. I hate it but ya gotta do what no one else will. If I feel overwhelmed or if I just don’t like the other person’s tone, etc. I will indeed ghost. I’m not one to go face to face. Or phone to phone even. SAYING that, I’m BEING ghoasted and I’m afraid it’s for a bad reason. My oldest friend suddenly went offline of everything 2 years ago. At first I didn’t do anything because out of sight means she’s okay just quiet. Then I finally got the guts to message her daughter (who is, ironically, ghosting ME). After no response I called her phone number expecting to hear that it’s been disconnected. It wasn’t. I got leave a message. So, here I am. Wondering if she is, frankly, still alive. She’d be 70 in September. I guess as long as I don’t know she is. Schroeder‘s box.
I agree with Michael, the humanitarian way isn't working. My advice is to rent a meat locker, find a butcher, and feed your family or someone else's family. My grandfather raised a hog every year and then had(made) my dad help him slaughter it. That was the meat my dad ate during the Depression.
You could publish a flyer and post it as a picture. Then we could all post it on our pages and see if someone answers the call to give Onyx his forever home. Or something.

I've heard the job market is notorious for ghosting people. It's also much higher stakes. A dirty van and surplus pig are nothing by comparison.

Thank you! I've actually landed a job recently, and alike the process took over a year. This is also one of the reasons I didn't post much lately.
I wondered. I’m glad you finally landed a job! Congratulations!!!

So, While it is not in IN, I do have friends who run a pig rescue and maybe they can help. They are in NC but depending on how desperate you are...
Here is their FB page, but let me know and I can probably hook you up with a direct contact

You might be right about the car detailer just not wanting the job. I did make the mistake of sending him pictures.

My car is also a high-pitched scream, followed by a projectile vomit. Feeling your pain.
I hope we don't get all the way to the projectile vomit stage. That will make detailing it cost twice as much.
