I am supremely impressed with Mae. I was camping this week, too, but in an air conditioned cabin. My cousin and I took our boys and simply decided we were too old to sleep on the ground. We also figured if we slept in a tent, the kids would stage a midnight breakout.
There was a group tent camping across from our cabin, and I have no idea how they did that in the heat. I just know that they were there late Tuesday night when we went to bed. They had a big campfire and everything. On Wednesday morning, we woke up, and there was not a trace of that group. Either the heat got to them and they left in the middle of the night, or they were abducted by aliens. Either way, it was probably cooler where they went. I am very impressed that Mae braved the heat and played with fire!
Hilarious from start to finish! I love how the girls are learning all these cool outdoorsy skills! Mae’s vigil tending the fire reminded me of squires in the Middle Ages would need to hold a vigil throughout the night before they were knighted. I guess she did get knighted as a Firecrafter!
Were they by any chance at the BSA camp that starts with K and is southwest of you? If so, I live in the area and drove by it earlier this week? Just curious.
Ooh, I could smell the fire and the woods through the photo. That brought back a lot of good memories. Mae's my kind of girl - not afraid to get her hands and knees dirty. I had to laugh about your girls not checking in during the week. Back when I was their age at church camp, we had to write a postcard to our folks before they'd let us in to supper on Wednesdays. I imagine the post card got home after we did, but oh well. My sister wrote a sentence that she had a BM. I just listed the other 8 or 9 names of the other girls who shared the cabin with me. Both fulfilled the requirement but sis' was a tad more entertaining than mine for them to read.

I like the idea that they fled in the middle of the night. Air conditioning was the way to go.
Nice... Hats off to Mae, that's remarkable!

That's a cool comparison. Keeping vigil on anything is quite dramatic. If that something can burn down the forest, that's just more excitement.
Way to go, Mae! I’m impressed!
Such a fun experience!
Your humor always make my day!! ("Sideways hug!")

Weirdly, it's not. I didn't realize there were multiple BSA summer camps in Indiana. We have more woods than I thought.
If she asks for a bow at Xmas, I’d get nervous…
