Now that 2018 is officially in the record books, it's time to look back at the places I failed and the places I failed by a little less. A few times, I didn’t even fail at all, but only because I moved the goalposts. It’s okay to cheat at your milestones if you don’t remember what you were shooting for in the first place. The key to success is a bad memory.

I only fell short by a few orders of magnitude. I picked 100,000 as a goal because I knew of a YouTuber who was making a living off that many subscribers. For the life of me, I can’t remember who it was. Clearly, he made quite an impression on me and is the kind of person I should base my life on. But even though I’ll never be able to support myself with YouTube, I still figured I could do better than the 300 subscribers I started with in 2018. I did, but not by a whole lot.
