Glad you had an awesome and safe trip! I'm an Ohioan so I know Cedar Point. Our friends' son used to call it See My Point when he was a pre-schooler. :-D Also, I remember years ago my husband solo riding what was then the Top Thrill Dragster, and there were so many may flies (isn't that what they are up on the lake, like big giant gnats?), that people had their faces tied up inside hoodies and completely covered. Others who were unprepared, like my husband, were splattered with may flies, some even had them in their teeth. Yikes!
And so, another roller coaster adventure in the books! It was great to read this two-part story (including the drive told about on Friday), which felt to me fast paced and full of emotions just like riding a coaster! Speaking of, reading brought back memories and reminds me it's time to pay Energylandia a second visit soon - it's been a few years since the last time!
As for fast passes, you're completely right - having them in the current form drives both a demand for them and eventually causes the prices to rise even more. Good thing in the park I I've been to there were tickets allowing for four fast pass rides without paying extra, which with my family we wisely used for each of the four largest coasters.
P. S. I forgot to tell on Friday, but in my family the middle seat has always been reserved for the smallest person. The only opt-out happened to be mine - using my left-handedness as the reason, I forever claimed the seat behind the driver.
I never thought of using hand dominance as a way to secure seat preference. Well played. I also like the idea of a limited number of fast passes. If everybody has the same number at equal price, it evens out.
Cedar Point was very good about people with disabilities. They always made it to the front, no fast pass needed. That's the one time cutting is absolutely okay.
Hubs and I went to Disneyland last year. I’ve only been wanting to go since watching “The Wonderful World of Disney”, in black and white no less. I can walk, but not for long distances, so rode in my wheelchair. Disney cast members always brought me to the front of the line and included hubs too!
We did fast pass at Disney once and it was totally worth it. But I don't think I would pay the price now. Of course, I don't think I would be able to afford Disney, or Cedar Point for that matter, at today's prices anyway. At least not for as little as I would ride the rides. Glad you had fun!!!!
Disney now has all sorts of tiers of fast and faster passes. You practically need a degree in Disney to know what I do. I'll leave that place for the experts.
The FastPass ripoff is TSAPRE-adjacent tho more expensive. My son only has TSAPRE for himself (don’t know why he doesn’t at least get it for his wife, who travels as much as he does) and he is regularly disgruntled that his family in the Commoners lane get thru security faster than he does.
I’m at Universal Studios and tomorrow my 72 yo sister and me (66) will be riding coasters all day! We know one day will take us out so only one will have to do. Cedar Point sounds like someplace I would love!
Love the theme parks! The wife and I are almost aging out but we’re not there yet. However, now that we are empty nesters we (meaning me cuz she’s frugal) spent the money at Universal for their version of fast passes, and gotta admit walking to the front of the lines was satisfying. Of course the next time we went I was basically crippled (quite injured) and got to the front again, so really if you do the math front of the line passes really only costs a leg. Glad you enjoyed your trip, middle of the back seat not withstanding.
I'd never spend extra money for a Lightning Pass. I'm too cheap for that too. That being said I use a wheelchair due to mobility issues but that does not give you free Lightning Passes anymore at Disneyland. However, my youngest son is disability due to autism and he and the whole party qualified for Lightning Passes the last time we were there. It was great.
I’m glad you had a lot of fun. I went to Cedar point many years ago a year after millennium force opened. I think we stood in line for three hours to write it, but it was the most amazing roller coaster I’ve ever been on. I’m glad I have the memories because I can no longer ride roller coasters due to medical issues. I’ve done a few mild rides, but my body just can’t handle the G Forces anymore.
Wow! Glad that everyone had fun and made it out of the park in one piece! The image of James getting so slick from gobs of sunscreen that he could get launched out of the roller coaster was hilarious! Do bugs stick to sunscreen?

Your husband's experience sounds very familiar. My brother-in-law ate more than a few. He barely needed lunch. I made sure to keep my mouth closed!

Your voice is so deadpan, it really cracks me up even more when you read your hilarious stories. Thanks again for a riotous tale of valor, James.
I've tried putting emotion in there, and it just doesn't work! It's a good think some people like the flat delivery.
I think Fast Pass should be reserved for special situations, like someone with disabilities who can’t wait in line without great difficulty.

That's a good comparison. Paying to cut is big business everywhere, even if the short cut isn't always much of a short cut.
