Today concludes a nine-day vacation with my kids. I’ll hold here for applause. The fact that I survived at all to tell the tale is a feat worthy of a heroic epic. Think The Odyssey, but with fewer sirens and more whining—and about the same amount of travel time. Every refrain of “Are we there yet?” felt like it added another year to the trip. My kids were off school for fall break, and I took the week off, too, since I work from home and wasn’t going to get anything done with them in the house. I mean, because I wanted to spend more time with them. Yeah, that’s the ticket. We spent part of the week in St. Louis, which is a trip we’ve made several times before. The city is relatively close and relatively cheap, which are my two main criteria for any outing. “Fun” ranks a distant third, but that’s actually what I’m going to measure in this newsletter.
