It’s that time of year again when we think about every other time of year. That’s right: We’re planning all of our family outings. The key to never enjoying the present is to always worry about the future. Stress is best experienced well in advance. We’re planning to go to multiple states to take in unremarkable attractions for short durations. Even those modest aspirations might be too much, but we have to try. Actually, we don’t. Lola and I could keep our family home every weekend between now and September and our kids would be perfectly content. Instead, I insisted on dragging them out of the house so they could be inconvenienced by the wider world. Why be happy when you can be perfectly miserable expanding your horizons? The whole point of vacations is to gain a new appreciation for finally coming home.
