Over the weekend, I was talking with friends when the subject of my surgery came up. That's where most of my conversations tend to go. If I didn't talk about the things going wrong in my life, I wouldn't have anything to say at all. I pointed out that I expect to recover quickly from my hernia surgery in the same way that I bounce back fast from all the surgeries before it. They looked at me, dumbfounded. Had I forgotten about the months I spent fighting c. diff or the fact that one surgery seems to lead directly into the next? I go to the operating room more often than some people go to the car wash. In my case, that's literally true. I'm not paying five dollars for some high velocity suds when rain water is free.
Contrary to my friends' impression of me, I think I'm doing all right. Yes, I go in for surgery a lot, but for completely different reasons each time. My body keeps getting broken in new and interesting ways, but my tissues and organs always make a full recovery. As for the …
