The metric system is fine. It's cold and logical, if that's your thing. But the United States customary units have something the metric system never will: pizzazz. A barrel is 31.5 gallons , not to be confused with an oil barrel, which is 1 and 1/3 liquid barrels or 42 gallons. Better yet, 1.5 oil barrels or 63 gallons is a hogshead. Is it easy to remember? Absolutely not. Is it awesome? Beyond a doubt.
But U.S. customary units have nothing on the system used to measure children's clothing. It makes sense early on. 2T means an article of clothing is meant for a 2-year-old. The same with 3T, and so on. But at some point, sizes start being delineated as kids, youth, and adult. How does that translate into Ts? Nobody knows. I'm also pretty sure the three size categories overlap on either end, making it all but impossible to tell what's actually going to fit without trying it on.
