At first glance, I don’t seem like the kind of guy who would want to go to Las Vegas. I hate spending money, so a city designed specifically to take my hard-earned cash and give me nothing in return is my nightmare. So how did I end up there? Last year, a convention in Texas sent me money for tickets to fly out and be a guest speaker. After I booked my flight, the convention was canceled, and the airline gave me a voucher good for one year to book something else. This year, the convention is happening, but they’re no longer inviting panelists from other parts of the country, a policy they may or may not have come up with specifically to get rid of me. I’d be offended, but I didn’t have to pay them back for the tickets, so I came out ahead. If I can find a way to consistently profit from being rejected, I’ll be set for life.
