I'm glad Lola is feeling better, Covid is brutal. I had long Covid three times in 2021 for all but 12 days of the years, I totally felt like it was a Covid curse. Haven't had it since so the vaccine may be working, that or it has something to do with locking myself in the house all the time, LOL.
Your best newsletter ever! Thank you!! I laughed so hard I think I pulled a muscle in my abdomen (good thing I have a doctors appointment tomorrow!) - I didn’t realize I still had “abs”!!
The last time I had a COVID test, I swear she pushed that swab so far up my nose that I heard the 'psshhh' sound as it punctured my blood/brain barrier.
Congratulations to all present, and best wishes to the couple! You guys certainly know how to have a good time.
Love the Covid dance and your right your daughter is seriously a mini me of your wife. Glad you had a good time and yes the bear is truly one of your great comedy writings
I was supposed to have my wedding in 2020 as well. I also ended up having a tiny ceremony (just our immediate families in the local park.) I was also supposed to have a "make-up" reception one year later in 2021 that got postponed. I'm also currently pregnant (6 months instead of 7 months though).
And now I'm just kicking myself for thinking that I couldn't try for yet another make-up reception this year just because I'm pregnant. Having the baby shower immediately after the wedding? That's genius! Please tell the happy couple that they're absolute geniuses and I'm kicking myself for not having the same idea. That's efficiency incarnate right there.
I'm glad you all got to attend and had a good time! And that everyone is healthy and well!
It's probably too late to book everything necessary for a dedicated wedding reception, but plans for the baby shower are in motion! There will already be cake and, given that my family is involved, it'll effectively be an open bar event as is. I'll have to send our officiant an invite and see if we can sneak in a vows renewal ceremony between the silly baby shower games and gift opening 👍🏻
How wonderful for Betsy and Lola to share that moment of something important. I can tell from the photo that Betsy did a great job, as you said. Congrats to the "newlyweds" and the long awaited wedding! Our daughter and husband waited 13 years before their marriage and we had the best time ever at the whole shebang .....'twas worth the wait! And I'm sending best wishes for mama to have a smooth delivery and the baby be healthy and perfect.
I've read your bear story several times before but it's always a treat to relive it. We should all have such a story to tell! How is the bear doing? Is there a shelf life on those things?
Great story! Hope Lola is feeling better! Loved watching the bear speech too — I knew the story, but don’t think I’d seen the video. And you’re right, Betsy looks amazingly like Lola - especially as they were wearing the same color!
They're not the taxidermy sort. If they had given me more than two days notice that I was giving a speech, I would have found some other way to ruin their lives.
Is it just me, or is one of your children planking on the arm of a couch in the background of the first wedding cake/duct tape/Saran wrap picture? I’m not familiar enough with their knees to identify which it is, but I’m kind of doubting whether you are either…

Thanks! You're officially the first newsletter injury. Other than the person who choked on hot coffee, I guess.

It's never too late for a reception! Seriously, tell people there will be cake and an open bar. They will show up.

The bear is aging better than I am. He still has a place of honor in my brother's home and is as regal as ever.

No taxidermy gifts for Winston????

Comedy gold!
Well--at least it all worked out okay in the end!
