I’ve never been the getaway driver for a bank heist, but I have been the wheel man for a self-guided wine tour. In terms of pressure, I have to imagine they’re about the same. The wine tour was my idea, so its success or failure was all up to me. Usually, when those are the only two possible outcomes, just one of them is actually plausible. I’m not known for my great organizational skills. When planning our wedding, I made exactly zero of the logistical decisions. My now-wife Lola sent me an email for what day and time to show up, and that was the extent of my involvement. Even then, I wasn’t essential. She could have found a cardboard cutout of me or possibly just a better husband.
Oh no so sad you've had a bad experience in an obviously profiting French winery ! I'm more in south of France but I've been to some wineries from "côtes du Rhône", exactly "chateauneuf du pape", and it included a museum and 3 short glasses of -excellent- wine to taste, and I insist it was short glasses, not samples ! All for less than 100$ for 2 persons. But your winery being "part" of the cruise thing, I guess they enjoy more than they should with their prices ! Do you remember the name ?
You should definitely organize a second once-in-a-lifetime trip, to south of France this time and discover our wonders, winery, beach, mountains, cities and campaigns in only one county that is a 3 hour drive large 😊
I'm up to drink wine with Lola, harder drinks with you (ever tasted pastis ?), while playing games, I am super multifunctional 😄
I belong to a Whiskey Lovers Club where do do just that. At each monthly meeting the attendees bring a bottle - I only bring Kentucky bourbon - to share. The host provides snacks and everyone compares notes. At the end of the night, if your bottle isn't empty, you can either take it home or leave it as a tip for the host.
I thought that after Your adventures in Amarillo You should've talked to the bartender. Plus, wine&board games party at home sounds to me as a very good event to participate in. If I ever happen to become Your friend, which is highly unlikely, then sign me up.
I love going to wineries. I enjoy talking to the owner and learning about the wines they are pouring. I live in Virginia and we have quite a few wineries in the state so I never have to go far to get to one. This coming weekend I will be going to Charlottesville, which has a ton of wineries. It is my best friend’s bachelorette weekend so that is what she wanted to do. We are all close to 40 so it won’t be as scary as it sounds. We will have a driver take us to three wineries and I am pretty excited as I haven’t been to two of them.
Having said all this I would prefer saying at home, as I have quite a bit of wine, and playing games. I don’t like the public either. 😂
Your adventures never disappoint in their hilarity, at least form an outsider’s perspective! If you head to San Antonio again, go to their Hill Country wineries. Bring Lola on the trip, but find a designated driver. You can’t throw a stone without hitting a winery. And there’s even an amazing Bourbon distillery (Garrison Brothers) down there too!
I think you have something there! We live just a few hours from the Napa/Sonoma wine country. The traffic is alway horrible, the places are expensive, and too many people. Save the gas and the travel and have a potluck wine party. Great idea!
My regular doctor also owns a winery not far from us on his family's farm. That seems odd to me but he's never even hinted that one glass of wine a day is good for you.
Now that you've taken the tours, just do like your last paragraph says and have your fun at home. And, was this your last trip of your summer of fun?
I laughed through this entire story! My favorite way to start my morning!!!!

Have you made it down to any of the wineries in S. Indiana? There are some pretty good ones along the Uplands Trail, North of Louisville.

I have a new life goal: play Viticulture in a winery
