1) Sr Citizen discounts save us only $3 but still happy they offer it.
2) Movie popcorn drenched in butter is pretty much the main reason to go to the theatre.
3) I like seeing the previews of upcoming movies but I hate that they show so many that it extends movie time - especially if the movie is already close to 3 hours long.
4) I can't recall the last time the theatre was crowded enough that someone I didn't know had to sit next to me.
5) Glad you had fun! (And yay that Betsy wanted you to wear a same shirt as her!)
We have started going to the last showing of what ever movie we want to see because the theaters are so packed. Movie theater popcorn is the best, minus the butter please, shudder.
I could end my comment on that, but let me add a few more thoughts. Betsy's idea for doing a Star Wars day and your execution of it was a perfect way of celebrating Star Wars day! I'm a little jealous, because the only public events this year in my area were few people from the 501st Legion Polish Garrison (my country's branch of this renowned official SW fan club) cosplaying in shopping malls and I had other things scheduled, so I limited my celebration to browsing memes and playing SW soundtrack.
I'm not the biggest SW nerd, but my love for the franchise remains strong ever since I watched the first six movies with cousins (and read an online summary of the 3d Clone Wars series on some fandom/wiki websites) aged 9. Soon I got few encyclopedias explaining lore and every character in the movies (those books are now part of the "Expanded Universe"/Star Wars Legends, as they were published before Disney took over). I was on the 3d re-release of TPM in cinema and loved the experience, though it wasn't the first time I saw that movie. As for it and the Prequel Trilogy in general, I began my interest in Star Wars when there were no sequels, growing up with the first six. For me the prequels were great, because everything was appearing modern and futuristic, plus I loved the look of Jedi robes and lightsabers (especially Darth Maul's and Mace Windu's). Waffle's excitement is very similar to how I was feeling when watching Episode 1 for the first time. After a rewatch or two of the trilogy I have understood where are the flaws of these movies, but I still like them and love all the memes, which are among the greatest in the Internet. Moreover, with my friends we had the greatest fun of recreating the memes in real life, which is among my fondest Star Wars-related memories.
I'm surprised at how love for the prequels has grown over the years. I guess movies are like songs. Your favorites are the ones that were there during your formative years, and nothing that comes after will ever compare.
Some time ago I saw a meme that depicted the cycle of fans' feelings on every piece of Star Wars content. The four stages were named with movie quotes, respectively: "I hate you" (RotS) -> "I don't like it, I don't agree with it, but I accept it" (Solo) -> "Oh, it's beautiful" (Rogue 1) -> "The sacred texts!" (TLJ). I think I might eventually follow that pattern with the sequels.
Sometimes movies/songs/series coming after one's formative years can become their beloved. I witnessed that when my dad got really strong into Avatar: The Last Airbender or his brother/my uncle into Harry Potter, while for me it was rediscovering the Formula 1-related content (not just the DTS).
I must be a billion years old cause I saw Star Wars when I was a junior in high school with the family. I refuse to call it A New Hope. I have fond memories of Jawas, the cantina scene, and looking at my dad when Darth Vader spiraled out of sight. We knew that meant a sequel.
I’m not sure I could watch anything with JarJar in it unless I could fast forward through it.
He can be amusing, and he’s grown on me over the years, but still not a big fan. Although the whole theory that he’s really a Sith is hilarious and makes him much more interesting.
I’m glad you enjoyed being out with your 13 year old. It won’t last I’m afraid. It might even be the last time you see her before you walk her down the aisle. :D side note: I saw the original Star Wars in a theater in Spain. Well, on the base so it was in English. I still remember it very well and we all knew it was damn special.
Added Spain to all your memories seems like a cheat code to win any conversation. You could have watched a terrible movie on a base in Spain and it still would have been a great experience.
I went to a Derby party on Saturday and totally missed the fact it was Star Wars day!! I dis redeem myself, however, by finding myself husband and I a cruise next year that's nerdy: Cruise the Galaxy to the Bahamas. Star Wars/Battlestar Galactica/any other Star series.
Sounds like Star Wars Day well done! I vividly remember skipping one of my summer school college classes to see The Empire Strikes Back on opening day. Its one of my favorite franchises. Even with the sub-par entries, I will always be a Star Wars fan.
I'm trying very hard not to be offended by your "million years old" comment because you were 13 when Episode 1: The Phantom Menace came out. I was 13 when Return of the Jedi came out. Guess that makes me 2 million years old. ;-)
I hear ya! I felt the same way when I heard that. We are the same age and I feel so old le when I hear how old Star Wars is. My brother, sister, and cousin were born the same year as the Original and hate the reminders of their age when it hits a big milestone
I can’t believe that I’m a super Star Wars nerd and didn’t watch anything Star Wars that day! I slept in, did some cleaning outside and ran errands. I completely forgot the day until that evening. We finished “The Bad Batch” a couple days before and I did watch some Mandalorian for the third time on Sunday. I’ll have to do better next year! By the way, did you know there’s a Dark Side day on the 5th?They call it Revenge of the Fifth. I guess I celebrated that, even if I’m all Rebel!
Remember how I said the other day that I was in Ireland ( I am from France) when I first saw episode I because it was not out in France and I happened to be there when it came out in Ireland. Wellll, I did it again. I took my kids for an extended weekend visit to Dublin, and Episode I was playing in the cinema.
My girls are 10 and 11 going on 12. They had seen it before, so they accepted to go and see it in a language they can't understand and with no subtitles.
That movie has its moments, but yeah it does drag a bit. My girls still had a good time, and it gave the opportunity to see a Star Wars movie on the big screen.

I truly wonder how theaters stay in business. I get the inputs l impression IMAX theaters are packed, but I'm never paying that much for a movie.
Us, either, but mostly because the sound is so loud it blows me out of the water and my ears simply cannot take that level without hurting.

This is the way.

Family experiences are best!
That must have been awesome to see in theaters when it was brand new to everyone. What a moment!
I think I’m the only person alive who loves Jar Jar Binks. The rest of the movie was rather blah, but Jar Jar really made me happy.

Well, can’t deny that LOL. I lived there for 4 years with the military. Glad I didn’t have to watch Star Wars in Spanish, lol.
Enough butter 🧈....is there such a thing as enough butter... I don't think so.
I love grilled cheese ❤️

Anything skipped to Star Wars is totally justified, especially for the greatest Star Wars movie (until Rogue One).

I was hoping for a photo of your matching shirts.
We need a twinning pic!
I remember going to see the original (A New Hope). I was 7. Yes I'm old.

Great family memories were made.
