Looks and sounds like a great time. I once attended something similar - the organizer had 5 different red wines that we rated in a blind taste test. To no one's surprise, 2 Buck Chuck was the winner LOL
What a great way of getting to and throwing a party! I'm gonna take notes, because I know more than few people who definitely would pull out something similar. Especially the combo glass!
"We didn’t buy any of our food until the day of the party. We like to live on the edge." - this is how all members of my family and friends circle act when organising a party, family gathering, grill, campfire or sleepover. Why bother wondering what food will be best for the party when you can adjust the menu at the last minute, just when the first guests arrive (with their ideas)😉?
"He acted like it was an unscripted surprise, but I suspect that was the plan all along, like a band that pretends it’s going to leave the stage early only to charge back out for a totally planned encore." - this part sounds pretty familiar. Has the Sabaton concert you had tickets for already taken place? Because that's exactly what they did on all (three so far) I went to. Regardless of the answer, I'm hoping you'll tell about it in a newsletter.
The Sabaton concert was a few weekends ago, and it was amazing. Those guys are just as funny in person as they are online. I think they did the encore thing you mentioned, although they made it pretty clear it was on purpose.
This party sounds right up my alley. My husband and I have quite a bit of wine that we have accumulated over the years and only really drink any of it during the weekend as we are pretty busy over the week. However, I do have one open bottle that I will need to drink in the next couple of days as we are going out of town on vacation for a couple of weeks.
That charcuterie board and other snacks look awesome. Did the wine guy talk to you about pairing your snacks with the wines?
He didn't get into too much detail on which wines paired with what. He mostly focused on the backstory for each wine. He was entertaining, but the information wasn't really useful.
I attended a wine festival at our local park this past weekend . No one had to cook nor clean- win!! Over 30 vendors of wine, hard ciders, & seltzers. One entry price and they give you a glass for unlimited tastings. By the end, most wine tasted like....wine. But, it was a fun social event, which is what counts the most.
This reminds me of my work trip to Sonoma 🤣 The company hosting us included a few winery tours, and in the course of two days, I ended up being convinced to buy a very overpriced wine suitcase, 12 bottles of wine to take home, 50+ bottles being delivered and 3 quarterly wine subscriptions!
I live semi-near California wine country. This newsletter could be noted as pure sacrilege. I’m just being a faux wine snob. Someone has to standup for these pompous people 😉
I love when you mention panic cleaning because I feel like it's such a universal thing, and we do it hard core when we have invited people over. There's the everyday level of "clean" (or not so much) and then there's when you are having guests. As you said, close friends can become accustomed to the everyday level, and that is a great thing. Those friends are the real deal. Peter and Delilah are heroes. Looked like fun. Camel racing is a new one on me.
I got progressively drunk reading this, chuckling quietly at your descriptions and anecdotes. Seems like you've figured out how to make your marriage last - always defer to the goddess.
Great story. Be careful, sounds like you are getting into sophisticated society. 🤣
I assure you there is no risk. I'll ever be sophisticated, either accidentally or on purpose.

The cheaper, the better. That wisdom always holds.

That's great, thanks for letting me know! I thought you probably went to the show in Indy back in April, but forgot to ask earlier.
Nice spread!
All my favorite food groups.
The key to happiness is meat and cheese. It really is that simple.
It truly is.
Fun! What did you do with the kids?
They were upstairs doing their own thing. They got to stay up extra late because we sort of forgot about them.

There's nothing better than drinking outside, unless it's drinking outside and not having to clean up afterwards. Totally worth the ticket price.

The game is called Camel Up, and it never fails to entertain. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Thanks for the tip. We'll check it out for our game nights!

Hope the hangovers weren't too bad.
I slept in till 9:00 the next morning, which is pretty much unheard of for me. I felt great after that. I'm unkillable.
