I will have to go back by & take a picture. One of my neighbors has the giant skeleton, and they left just one leg up, dressed in a fishnet stocking with a lampshade on it...

That's some creative genre-combining stuff right there. 10/10. No notes.

This is genius-level effort!

Star Trek... crew socks. A pun on multiple levels.

Well, at least Gillie confines herself to shredding tissue paper and not other pets or people.

I didn't even think of that! My pun game has always been weak. I'll have to see if I can work that joke into a conversation this weekend.

Sounds delightful! Merry Christmas!

What a creative way to do Christmas. Kudos! Four adults over 40 here with two pushing 70. Every year things change up a bit. We’re at the point where it all seems like too much trouble. I only got half the stockings up before we all decided we weren’t doing stockings this year. Usually they’re filled with candy and none of us can eat chocolate anymore. There were several parts of the story where something would pop into my head like “TSO???” That was my husband’s gift from me this year. He’s always wanted to go. I thought it was an orchestra with a conductor and soft Christmas music. My sister swore I’d LOVE it. I did not. It was both overwhelming to my senses and LOUD. It wasn’t all bad but most of it I spent watching through the gals hair in front of me and putting my hands over my ears. Christmas lights…well, I did more out front because my dogs destroy everything they can. Think pigs. Our tree is behind their cages but there’s no presents there. Like you, we have to keep them upstairs. I’ve not even wrapped yet which is unusual for me. Gift bags it is this year, lol. I too shopped off the Amazon lists so no one will be surprised but all will be happy. We have two birthday’s that follow Christmas, the 31st and the 3 of January. What do I give? Cake. Let them eat cake. LOL. One more thing, I take my dogs to a park that is currently being used as one of those pay too much to see Christmas lights up. They’ve been stringing them for months now. Yesterday we strayed off our path because both wanted to follow deer tracks and I was holding both their leashes and instead of stepping over the string lights, they pulled, I fell. Again. That makes 4 times this year. How the hell I’ve not broken anything serious is beyond me but, as much as I love my boys, I kind of wish we’d had gotten smaller dogs. Our Lab/German Shepard mix are 80lbs and all muscle. They’re trained but, come on, DEER TRACKS??? Anyway, have a great many Christmases. I’ve truly enjoyed reading about you and the family for a long time now. The only thing I DON’T like is I wanna know your real names. Just because. Not sure I’d think of you guys in any other way other than the ones you gave us (waffle???) but damn, some of us who been with you for years should know! Just a thought, lol.

I slip up and write real names from time to time. They're just as ordinaries or fake names. Other than Waffle. That fake name is a little out there. I don't want to alarm you, but your dogs might be trying to kill you. Be careful out there, and don't stray too far from any witnesses.

Sounds like you can mark the First Christmas as a success. I hope the others are just as awesome.

My boyfriend and I always host the Christmas gathering. He's great at helping with the decorations and cleaning (and cooking!), but he leaves the gift wrapping to me. He's right there with you on gift bags. LOL

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Gift wrapping is an inherent skill developed at birth. You're either born with it or you're not. Weirdly enough, nearly all men were not. Funny how that works out.

Sounds like so much fun! I need to count gifts and ensure I'm being fair. Just two kids here, but I know the hurt feelings that will come out if one gets more than the other.

It gets tricky when one kid gets fewer gifts that are pricier. Children don't understand values being equal. They want equal quantities of gifts. The parental math gets more challenging each year.

So fun! We just did our 1st Christmas with our college daughter. We still spoil her rotten. It's fun. Merry Christmas! Enjoy each and every day of the holidays!

It must be fun having her home for the holidays. I'm sure I'll go above and beyond spoiling my daughters of that stage too. It's the only way to guarantee they keep coming back.

Sounds like everyone had a great time. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! Our eldest is here with wife and their two children. So for the first time I. Many years the underneath of our tree is full!! Hold those kids tight, take a zillion photos, and take any chance to spend time with them. They leave all to soon

There's nothing better than a full house, even if, when it's at maximum volume, I sometimes wish it was a little more empty. I can always get ear plugs.

One key to good writing is an intriguing title that will pique the readers‘ interest to open the book/article/newsletter. James always comes up with good ones! At first I thought “The First Christmas” would somehow be about the real first Christmas in Bethlehem more than two thousand years ago (which might mean that James somehow got his hands on a Time Machine!). Now I see that it’s about the first of multiple Christmas celebrations 😊. Fun times abound. Blessings and Merry Christmas to everyone!

I can only imagine the trouble I'd get into with the time machine. It's best that I stay in my own era and cause all my trouble here.

So, I totally think you should wear one of each sock. I recently bought myself green socks with Yoda on them. They are Happy Socks - I have over a dozen pair, and they all make me happy when I wear them.

And I’m so happy to read that Lucy is still into plants! Carnivorous plants are difficult to keep alive - tell her to read up on them a lot! I have enough trouble with regular plants, so haven’t gone the next step to carnivorous ones yet.

Hope you all had a wonderful family Christmas celebration…and way to go for stretching Christmas out to multiple months!

I don’t know about the last line. No one can be on Santa’s nice list and on Lola’s naughty one… but it may be Lola’s Xmas miracle!

I can beat you with the latest Christmas. My family and I just celebrated last year and this year over the weekend. Double Christmas!

Merry 1st Christmas! We just finished wrapping all the gifts for our family's opening on Weds. MrP got sloppier the further he got so I finally delegated him to writing tags and taping the bows on. They never have enough sticky that will last for more than 5 minutes so that's his job. He also misplaced the stash of left over gift bags so we had to wrap more than usual. And magically, son, daughter and her husband all came within one of each other in number of gifts. Methinks we've been doing this for so long that the equality skill just comes naturally now.
