That's great! Lovely way for spending a holiday. The paragraph about sandwiches reminded me of how my little cousins took seriously their play of "running a restaurant" during one big family summer trip many years ago. Throughout the entire stay the foursome of them plus my youngest brother each afternoon were preparing and handing out sandwiches and other snacks for all the parents, who previously ordered them. They were operating from the one spare bedroom in the cottage we were sleeping in. I have to say their dishes looked pretty tasty. It was fun & games for all except older kids (me included), because their "restaurant" blocked from using the only bedroom that had radio build in the shower!
What is it with kids and playing restaurant? They seem to universally love it, yet actually working in a restaurant is the worst. My kids will learn that soon enough if they want spending money.
That sounds like fun. I went to my daughter's house where she cooked the entire meal herself. She even made cranberry sauce. And it was all amazing. I didn't even have to break out the bottle of wine I brought!
That is the ideal dining experience. After providing for her for her entire childhood, surely she still owes you a few favors. Consider this Thanksgiving a down payment.
- That one of Bread’s excuses is to paint behind the toilet 😆
- That Peter’s grilled cheese sandwich arrived in 1-inch cubes and that the girls had measured off the cubes with a ruler (and called “good eggs” by their dad for their exemplary customer service!);
- That James is now ready to hibernate after surviving multiple Thanksgivings;
- That various siblings had the most compressed travel schedules yet did not allow rain, sleet, snow, traffic, boredom to deter them from the gatherings!
Nice! Sounds like an awesome holiday. I too had 3 thanksgivings. One I cooked for my pet sitter before I left. 14 packed up Thanksgiving meals to eat while I was away. Then I had Thanksgiving on the day while on a cruise ship and then when I got home I cooked Thanksgiving for myself. Happy Holidays everyone!
I remember one year I had 5 T-day lunches/dinners. 3 at work (we have various offices in different cities and I somehow ended up at 3 different ones on the days each location had their t-day potlucks), then 2 different home+family/friendsgiving that weekend. It was AMAZING! Way better than this year when the catered turkey gave most of us mild food poisoning. I suppose life balances out.
Tell me you’re younger than me without mentioning your age….I swear the next time you complain that your “old” I’m gonna remind you that you DID all this. Us? We had dinner at Golden Corral which, BTW, has the best rolls, lol. Everyone got what they wanted, it cost less than what we’d pay to get all the items, no one cooked, no one cleaned. Bliss.
I feel like Bread and I would get along well.
There are many like him, but he will never meet them. Going out into society is now off the table.
Introverts unite. Separately. In your own homes.

... I'm still eating leftovers... life is good 👍🏼
Us too! It is now my sworn duty to eat this entire sweet potato pie by myself. Not one bite will go to waste.
Yes! One massive cooking spree, days of leftovers. No cooking!
Hilarious! My favorite parts:

That last bullet point was the most improbable. Somehow, everyone makes it home, whether my parents want us there or not.

A cruise Thanksgiving sounds delightful. We've had snow around here. We're definitely doing it wrong.
Three Thanksgivings! I feel like a slacker, just having the one. Sounds like everyone except Bread had fun, so well done.
Also, "we cleaned with mild alarm" fits me & my boyfriend to a tee. LOL
That's exactly the right amount of alarm. Any more than that and too much stuff gets done. I'm not that ambitious.

My condolences on the food poisoning. That's one of the worst experiences in the world. Even the "mild" cases are awful.
I want to know more about these absolutely true explanations Bread has told people
I have no doubt he'll be providing us with many more after this weekend. He'll never fall for showing up again.
