Hey, I'm also all for getting completely knocked out, or at least far enough under that I don't hear, smell, see or feel anything. I've even gone that route for several dental procedures because I'm a big chicken and the dentist doesn't want me to hit him. And yes, my 40-yr-old daughter had a hip replaced without gen'l anesthesia, which totally made me shudder just thinking of hearing that drill. I was hoping that you were a total romantic while coming out from under like my husband is. He says 'I love you' enough in recovery to last a lifetime. It's cute for a while but then honestly gets kind of embarrassing - but so far he hasn't said anyone else's name at the time, so guess I can't complain.

"He died as he lived: As stupidly as possible" would make a fabulous and unique inscription on your tombstone, but until then, glad to hear all went well and hoping you heal quickly.

You still have a spleen and a gallbladder!

James, you are a wuss! I had ortho surgery on my ankle with only a nerve block. I had a non union fracture and got screws and bone taken from my shin to help me heal. I get super forgetful after general anesthesia although my family can't tell the difference as I'm super forgetful anyways ;o) The drill noise on my ankle was a bit disturbing but the anesthesiologist was so impressed that he talked to me most of the surgery. He probably has no one to talk to when the patient is asleep.

I want to see the bone the size of a blueberry!πŸ₯Ί

I will say this regarding the future: don’t ever break your femur on the leg you had knee surgery 2 months ago😱

Good luck on your recovery!

I'm glad the surgery went well but I do think you're a bit of a wimp for getting knocked out. I had eye surgery last year where the surgeon had to scrap off a bump on my retina by opening up my eyeball. I just got a local and a block on my optic nerve. I was talking to the surgeon the whole time he was working. Good times.

Almost time for a knee or hip replacement. I would strongly recommend the hip first, it's a lot easier recovery. Oh and never let them touch your shoulders. Says the 59 yr. old who has had 26 surgeries in the last 20 yrs

So either you are copying me or I’m copying you: I had a bout of sepsis in August due to a UTI. But I don’t think you have to worry about future sepsis from UTI, if you get my drift.

The hospital stay with sepsis postponed my hip replacement, which was done yesterday and I, too, feel pretty great for being one day out; but, the pain from the hip was so bad before that this replacement is a definite improvement. So it’s all relative. At least after joint replacements you get the GoodStuff, which can be somewhat enjoyable. Quick recoveries for us all!

I’m certain they are used to repeating conversations while you’re in recovery. After I had my gallbladder out, apparently I had a whole conversation with the nurse about my kids, and insisted we call my husband. Woke up again 20-30 minutes later, again insisting we call my husband, having no idea I’d just talked to him.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I had the twilight sedation twice and slept through the procedures both times. It might as well have been general anesthesia! The first time I had it, they warned me that I would get irritable when the drugs wore off. They weren’t wrong.
