I love historical stuff so this was fun to read. I also love the fact that I get an ego trip just by reading a newsletter. How else am I supposed to get one eternally locked in my house with Covid for the fifth time?

It is our duty to feel smugly superior to all those who came before us in history. Good luck with the lockdown.

Thank you! I've basically been on non stop lockdown since January 9, 2021. I've had Covid 5 times (all but 12 days of 2021 and twice in 2022). Despite only leaving the house for medical appointments. It sucks so bad. I'm going for the record, which is a 72 year old man who has had Covid 43 times, if you are going to do something you might as well go big! LOL

Fascinating! Thanks for including us in your tour and historical story! All of that opulence is amazing to think of in light of no power tools. Thinking about how talented the craftsmen and laborers were makes me think highly of them and not the guy with money!!!!

I can only assume they had a lot more time on their hands. I never would have had the patience at any skill level.

Well, now. That was a plethora of interesting facts! And, I gasped when I saw the detail in that 2nd photo. Wowee. I would love to know who carved all those figures and how long it took, etc. Beautiful. Am curious, do any of those palaces/cathedrals/etc charge a fee to go in and view?

There's a fee for most of them. Maintaining some rich guy's ancient folly isn't cheap.

This is great! A historical and hysterical means of studying historical concepts. Keeping up with the arch-dukes 90210. Thank you for the great read!
