People have different motivations for doing sports. Some people want to get exercise and stay healthy. Some people want glory and eternal fame, you know, because we all get famous with youth sports. That's just the way that goes. But the final reason is to be social. That's definitely what at least one of my children wants out of the experience.

My 10 year old, Mae, has been playing soccer. She's extremely fast and I hope she'll do cross country and track as she goes. But for now she has been corrupted by ball sports, which depend on things like hand, eye coordination and teamwork. All of those have always been verboten in my own life.
