As you know from my previous bonus newsletter, we recently had a bit of a Christmas tree crisis. I broke our old tree and threw it out and had to replace it with a new tree on short notice. The tallest tree a local big box store had was seven and a half feet, which was at least a full foot, if not a foot and a half shorter than our old tree. I thought my kids wouldn't notice. After all, they can't even break the five foot barrier. What do they care? Tall is tall.
Well, I was wrong. In the 20 minutes after I put up the tree. y oldest daughter, Betsy, must have mentioned a hundred times how much shorter the new tree was than the old tree. That was her only comment. She had no opinion whatsoever on its color or bushiness. Or most important for us, it's structural stability. All she could fixate on was the height. I had deprived her of at least a foot of Christmas cheer. Shame on me.
